Baby Boy Warren’s Grave

Detroit’s postwar blues scene had a fistful of giants, and Baby Boy Warren was one of them. Born in Louisiana and raised in Memphis — where he came up around Howlin’ Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson — Robert “Baby Boy” Warren moved to Detroit in 1942, worked the line at GM by day, and played the city’s blues clubs by night. He cut a run of fierce, distinctive sides in the late ’40s and ’50s and, after a quiet decade, was rediscovered by the festival circuit in the ’70s.

He rests at Detroit Memorial Park, not far from fellow bluesman Bobo Jenkins. On our list for the deep-blues faithful.
