Bobo Jenkins’ Grave

Our Take

Detroit’s blues history runs as deep as its soul and its rock, and Bobo Jenkins was one of its keepers. A Mississippi-born singer and guitarist who came north and plugged into the postwar Detroit blues scene, he not only recorded but ran his own Big Star label to document musicians the majors ignored — a one-man archive of a sound that fed everything that came after.

He rests at Detroit Memorial Park. On our list for anyone chasing the deep roots of Detroit music.
