Who’s doing the picking?
We’re Mike & Andrea, and this is us downtown — still a little starstruck by this city. Bruce Lee, our pug, supervises from home.
Andrea was born and raised in Flint — scrappy and refined in equal measure — and she’s a die-hard, lifelong Lions fan. After Michigan State she chased the map: Chicago, Southern California, Orlando, back to Chicago, where she met Mike. He grew up in Chicago, a born-and-raised Bears fan who spent his life working in event planning and touring with bands — and somewhere along the way kept finding excuses to come back to Detroit. He fell for this city long before he ever lived here. (He’ll always root for the Bears, but the Lions are a close second in his heart. At least neither of us are Packers fans.)
In 2021 we took a leap together — moved to Asheville, then spent 18 months living and working out of an RV, 38 states deep. We came back to Michigan, couldn’t bring ourselves to leave, and after a couple of years in Frankfort we landed in Metro Detroit in May 2026 — thrilled to be back to urban living and the occasional luxury. We’re not from here, and that’s exactly the point: every place we feature gets visited, judged honestly, and only written up if it’s actually worth your time. No pay-to-play. No fluff. Just the good stuff.
