Delovely Detroit is run by two people and a pug. We are not in the data business, and we have no interest in becoming one. We collect the least we can get away with, we don’t sell anything about you to anyone, and this page explains — in plain English — exactly what happens when you visit the site or join the list.

What we collect

If you join the newsletter

We collect your email address. That’s it — we don’t ask for your name, your phone number, or anything else.

Our newsletter runs on beehiiv, which stores your email address and records standard engagement data: whether an issue was opened, and which links were clicked. We use that to figure out what’s worth writing about and what isn’t. It also records which page you signed up from, so we know what’s actually working.

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. It works immediately, we don’t make you explain yourself, and we won’t email you again.

If you just visit the site

Like nearly every website, ours uses cookies and similar technologies to understand how people find and use it. Specifically:

Google Analytics — which pages people read, roughly where in the world they are, and how they arrived. Aggregate; we can’t use it to identify you personally. (Google’s policy)
Google Search Console — what people search for before they land here.
Meta Pixel — if we’re running an ad, this tells us whether it worked. It sets a cookie and reports back to Meta that someone visited a page or signed up. (Meta’s policy)
Google Maps — our listings and maps load content from Google’s servers when you view them.
Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, time of visit) for security and performance. Everybody’s does.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Parts of the site may behave oddly if you do, but nothing important will break.

Affiliate links

Some listings include links to tours and experiences through partners like Viator and GetYourGuide. If you book through one, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not — ever — influence whether a place gets written up or how honestly we write about it. Nobody buys their way onto this site.

Those partners set their own cookies to track that the click came from us. Their privacy policies govern what they do with that.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your email address or personal information. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
We don’t rent or trade our list.
We don’t send you emails you didn’t ask for.
We don’t collect payment information, because we don’t charge for anything.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email.

You can also email us at hello@delovelydetroit.com and ask us to tell you what information we have about you, correct it, or delete it entirely. We’ll do it. You don’t need to cite a statute or explain why — just ask.

Depending on where you live, you may have specific legal rights around your data (for example under the CCPA in California or the GDPR in Europe). We honor those requests regardless of where you’re writing from, because it seems like the decent thing to do.

Children

This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us their email address, write to us and we’ll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we’ll update this page and change the date at the top. If it’s a significant change, we’ll say so in the newsletter — because burying it here and hoping you don’t notice would be exactly the kind of thing we started this to avoid.
