Malone’s Tavern

Every good suburb needs its Cheers, and on Warren‘s stretch of Van Dyke that’s Malone’s. Family-run since 2002, it looks like a standard sports tavern — dark wood, a wall of TVs, a dozen games going at once — but the kitchen is the twist: nearly everything’s made from scratch, right down to the soups, which is not a sentence you expect to write about a bar. Regulars come for the ribs, the hand-pattied burgers, the corned beef, a genuinely good French onion, and a surprise dill pickle soup with its own quiet following, all washed down with a solid lineup of Michigan craft and domestic drafts. There’s an expanded open-air room with an attached patio for warm nights, and it’s the kind of place that hosts everything from the after-work unwind to the rehearsal dinner. Pair it with a few frames at nearby Universal Lanes and you’ve got a low-key Warren night out. On our list as the neighborhood tavern done right.
