James Couzens’ Grave

He helped build the Ford Motor Company, then spent the rest of his life spending the fortune on Detroit. James Couzens was the sharp business mind behind early Ford — often credited with the logic that made the $5 workday possible — before cashing out and turning to public life as Detroit’s mayor and then a U.S. senator. Prickly, fiercely independent, and genuinely philanthropic, he poured millions into the city’s children’s causes.

He rests at Woodlawn among the auto-era names he ran with and, eventually, against. On our list.
