Noble Village

Noble Fish has been our go-to carryout sushi for years — the kind of place we default to when we want the real thing without the fuss. It started life in 1984 as a tiny Japanese market with a sushi counter tucked in back, and under longtime steward “Guchi-san” it built a reputation for some of the freshest fish in the Midwest, long before sushi went mainstream here. We’ve spent plenty of happy time on the market side, wandering the aisles of imported snacks, sauces, and sushi-grade seafood — though we’ll admit we’ve always grabbed our rolls to go and never actually sat down at the little sushi bar inside.

Here’s the update worth knowing: Noble Fish and its sister bakery, White Wolf Japanese Patisserie, have merged into Noble Village, a 12,000-square-foot Asian food hall a few doors down on 14 Mile. The sushi and market are still the heart of it, now joined under one roof by White Wolf’s pastries and coffee, a ramen bar, and a cocktail bar with proper sit-down seating. It’s a genuine Clawson original — pair it with Three Cats at Leon & Lulu for a very Clawson afternoon. We loved it as Noble Fish; we’re overdue for a proper sit-down at the new hall.
