On Our Radar

Detroit Fiber Works

Our Take

Part shop, part studio, part gathering place, Detroit Fiber Works is where the Avenue’s creative heart shows. Owner Mandisa fills the space with handmade clothing, textiles, and fiber art — and teaches the craft, hosting classes and workshops where you can learn to make your own pieces, plus rotating work from artists around the world.

It’s the kind of Black woman-owned gem where the owner will happily stop to share her love of the neighborhood, and you leave with something one-of-a-kind and the story behind it. A genuine antidote to mall sameness, on a street that once defined Detroit style.
