Yates Cider Mill

Yates isn’t just a cider mill; it’s one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Michigan, pressing apples on the banks of the Clinton River since 1863 — and still doing it with a water turbine installed in 1894, driven by the same dam. That’s not a bit of theater for the tourists; it’s genuinely how the cider gets made. The rest is exactly the fall-in-Michigan fantasy: warm cider and cinnamon donuts, an ice-cream shoppe, a fudge counter, riverside walking trails, picnic tables, farm animals, and weekend pony rides. It draws happy crowds every October for good reason, but it’s a lovely low-key stop spring through fall too (the mill breaks for winter). Bring kids, bring out-of-towners, bring anyone who needs reminding that Rochester Hills has a genuinely historic heart. On our list as a generational, only-here destination.
