Salinair Salt Room Spa

Our Take

Transparency first: Salinair invited us in for a complimentary private salt room session and gave us the code DELOVELY10 for our readers. For every five times the code is used, we receive a complimentary session as well. They had no editorial input into this review, and everything below reflects our honest experience.

When we walked out the door, we looked at each other and said the same thing: “I didn’t realize how much I needed that.”

That’s probably the simplest way to describe the experience. An hour earlier we’d walked into what looks, from the outside, like another storefront in a Rochester Hills shopping plaza. An hour later we were driving home with clearer sinuses, quieter minds, and absolutely no desire to tackle the rest of our to-do list.

Andrea has spent nearly twenty years leading luxury spas, which means she notices everything—the lighting, the cleanliness, the guest flow, the service. It’s rare for her to switch off completely in a wellness space, because part of her brain is always quietly evaluating the experience.

At Salinair, she did.

From the outside, the building is modest and unassuming. This is not the marble-and-eucalyptus arrival you’d get at a resort spa, and it isn’t trying to be. Once you step through the doors, the focus shifts exactly where it should—to creating a quiet, calming environment where you can simply slow down, breathe, and disconnect for an hour. The experience isn’t about flashy amenities; it’s about how you feel when you leave.

What actually happens

After checking in, you’ll slip off your shoes, pull on disposable booties, and be given a cozy blanket to keep warm (and keep the salt off your clothes). There are small lockers for your phone, wallet, small purse, and keys, though you’ll want to leave larger bags in the car if possible. From there, the staff walks you back and explains what to expect.

There are two salt rooms: a smaller, more intimate room and the larger room where we spent our session. Ours featured six comfortable recliners with plenty of space between them, yoga mats if you’d rather stretch out on the floor, warm lighting, calming music, and salt covering the walls, floor, and ceiling. The atmosphere feels peaceful without trying too hard.

The hour

We visited on a Monday afternoon with nothing planned afterward, and honestly, that’s the best way to do it. Mike—who never naps—was nearly asleep within ten minutes.

About twenty minutes in, the salt showed up. Not overbearing, not briny—light, the way it catches you standing near the ocean and then slips away again. Right around then our sinuses began to open. It wasn’t dramatic or theatrical. We simply found ourselves breathing a little easier.

Somewhere during the session, Andrea realized she’d stopped evaluating everything around her. Not thinking about operations. Not mentally critiquing the guest experience the way she always does. Just…relaxing.

That may be the biggest compliment she can give a spa.

What surprised us most was how we felt afterward. We got home, looked at our to-do list, laughed, and decided tomorrow sounded like a much better day to tackle it. Sometimes your nervous system just needs permission to slow down.

Who’s behind Salinair

Owner Olga Kovtun first discovered Salinair as a customer visiting with her children. A few years later, she owned the business. The salt room itself has been serving Rochester Hills since 2013, and today it’s independently owned, woman-owned, and clearly operated by people who care about creating a welcoming experience.

Kate greeted us warmly at the front desk and spent a few minutes sharing the history of halotherapy before our session. She walked us through what to do and gave a quick tour — she genuinely enjoyed educating guests about something she believes in.

There’s more than the salt room

While halotherapy is the main attraction, Salinair also offers massage, Halo-Reiki, guided meditation, breathwork, movement classes, and special events like sound baths inside the salt room. If sitting quietly for an hour isn’t quite your style, there’s a good chance one of their other offerings will be.

One honest note

Like many wellness therapies, halotherapy comes with a variety of health claims. It has not been evaluated by the FDA, and the research behind it remains limited — a disclaimer Salinair carries on its own website. Their materials also outline several medical conditions where treatment may not be appropriate, including fever, cardiac insufficiency, severe hypertension, and advanced COPD.

If you have respiratory or heart conditions—or simply aren’t sure whether it’s right for you—we’d encourage you to give them a call and check with your healthcare provider before booking.

All we can speak to is our own experience.

We walked out breathing a little easier, feeling noticeably calmer, and wondering why we don’t make time for this kind of reset more often.

The practical bit

Sessions start around $37, group sessions are approximately $30 per person, and a private room is $109. Parking is free and right out front. Weekday afternoons run on posted hours; weekends are by appointment, and they’re flexible if you call or text. More Rochester Hills worth your afternoon here.

Wellness doesn’t always have to mean an entire spa day or spending hundreds of dollars. Sometimes it’s simply giving yourself permission to slow down for an hour. Salinair reminded us that doing absolutely nothing can actually be incredibly restorative.

💙 Delovely Detroit readers can use code DELOVELY10 for $10 off your first visit. And, in the spirit of full transparency, every fifth redemption earns us a complimentary session.
