The Rust Belt Market

Our Take

We walked in the front door with no real idea what we were walking into — and left an hour later with houseplants and a new necklace. The Rust Belt Market is a weekend-only marketplace on the corner of Nine Mile and Woodward, where thirty-some independent Michigan makers, vintage dealers, and artists set up shop under one roof. You drift from stall to stall with no particular plan — candles, oddities, Detroit-everything gifts, plants, jewelry — and somewhere toward the back you discover there’s a full bar, which quietly reframes the entire afternoon.

Andrea found the necklace; the plants came home with us. It’s the perfect answer to a gray, do-nothing kind of weather day — low-commitment, high-charm, and a little different every visit since the vendors rotate. We’re heading back with a camera to document it properly, but it earned its Been There the honest way: we loved it.
