B. Nektar Meadery

Our Take

Mead has an image problem — Renaissance fairs, drinking horns, dragons — and B. Nektar has spent years quietly fixing it. This Ferndale meadery treats honey wine as something modern and drinkable, with a rotating lineup of meads, session meads, and hard ciders that lands a lot closer to craft beer than to anything medieval. The taproom is easygoing and a little irreverent, which is exactly the right energy for a place asking you to reconsider a 9,000-year-old drink.

It’s on our list as a genuine Michigan original — a whole category most people have never really explored, made by folks who helped put metro Detroit mead on the map. Come curious.
