The “8 Mile” Trailer Park (A&L Mobile Home Park)

Our Take

Here’s where movie myth and real life diverge, in the most Detroit way. In 8 Mile (2002), Eminem’s character B-Rabbit lives in a cramped trailer with his mother (Kim Basinger) in the “8 Mile Mobile Court” — and that trailer park is a real place: the A&L Mobile Home Park on Schultes Avenue in Warren, right on the north side of 8 Mile Road, the very dividing line the movie is named for.

The twist worth knowing: Eminem himself didn’t grow up in a trailer park — that’s a Hollywood compression of a harder, messier reality (his real childhood home was the Dresden Street house a few miles south). But the location rang true: this is exactly the kind of working-class edge-of-the-city spot the film is about. It’s a regular, occupied mobile-home community, so this is strictly a drive-past from the public road — but for fans of the film, seeing the real “8 Mile Mobile Court” sitting right there on 8 Mile is a genuine kick.
