Rosie’s Park Madison Heights

Our Take

Rosie’s Park is our home turf — we live a short walk away and wander through nearly every morning, and it’s quietly become part of how we start our days. The little woods trail loop, in particular, has a genuine zen quality to it; a slow lap under the trees sets our heads right before we sit down to work. Cheap therapy, basically.

For a tucked-away city park, it punches above its weight. There are a couple of baseball diamonds, two separate kids’ play areas, a BMX track and a skate ramp, and newer pickleball courts (those are on our to-try list — we’ll report back). Paved paths wind through the whole thing, well used by a friendly mix of joggers, bikers, dog-walkers, and stroller-pushers, and the place is reliably clean and feels safe and walkable. It’s the kind of neighborhood anchor that makes a whole area feel like home.

A couple of honest, minor notes: there are no picnic pavilions, so it’s not a stake-out-a-shaded-table-for-the-afternoon kind of park. And the parking lots are a little scattered — the one nearest us is small — though we always walk, so plan your entrance if you’re driving to a specific spot.

Quick-hit details

  • Don’t miss: The woods trail loop (the peaceful highlight); the paved walking/biking paths; the newer pickleball courts; the BMX track and skate ramp for the kids
  • Good to know: Two playgrounds, ball diamonds, basketball, skate ramp, pickleball; ~½-mile and 1-mile paved loops; clean public restrooms; dog-friendly and very walkable; busy in a friendly, neighborhood way
  • Watch out for: No picnic pavilions/shelters, so limited cover and not built for big sit-down gatherings; parking lots are scattered and the smaller ones fill up — pick your entrance if driving to a specific area
