Eminem and D12 Mural

It’s on the back of Bert’s Marketplace, facing Rivard: an enormous wall handed over to Eminem and D12, painted in 2017 by Miami artists Felix Perez and Michael Vasquez. Eminem holds the middle. More work runs down the alley between Russell and Rivard, so the stop is bigger than the one wall suggests.

Access is the thing nobody tells you. The wall faces the street, but you take it in from inside Bert’s parking lot — staff parking, we assumed, though nobody minded us. It was open because Bert’s was open, and our read is that the gate closes when they do, so aim for business hours rather than a quiet early morning.

If you carry on into the alley for the rest of the art, mind your footwear. It was a mud pit the day we went — no pavement worth the name back there — and nice shoes were the wrong call. Wear something you’re willing to write off.

Worth it regardless. If you care at all about Eminem and Detroit’s claim on him, this is a genuine must-stop, and it’s a short walk from the Eastern Market sheds rather than a special trip. Pair it with the childhood home on the east side if you want to make a proper circuit of it.
