We have not been inside Batch yet — but we’ve had the beer, which counts for something. Over lunch at Mudgie’s, half a block away, Mike ordered the Czech Czech 1,2 1,2 pilsner and it did exactly what a pilsner should do on a hot Corktown afternoon. That was enough to move the brewery itself onto the list.

Batch opened on Porter Street in 2015 and has spent the decade since becoming a neighborhood fixture rather than a destination-only stop — small-batch ales, stouts and IPAs on a board that changes constantly, and, since a 2025 expansion into full-service dining, a scratch kitchen turning out barbecue and shareable plates instead of the food-truck-only arrangement of the early years. Metro Times readers voted it best bar in Wayne County in 2023.

What we actually want to see is outside. There’s a year-round patio and a Biergarten Stage that hosts live performances, which explains the band-shell structure we spotted from the sidewalk. Pair it with a sandwich down the block and you’ve got a full Corktown afternoon without moving the car. High on our Drink list.
