If Milford has a special-occasion table, Pettibone is it — though it’s far too easygoing to feel stuffy about the title. Named for the creek that runs through the village, this Main Street spot threads the needle between upscale and everyday: a polished, intimate dining room, a proper bar, and a patio, with a from-scratch contemporary-American menu that takes itself seriously without lecturing you about it. It’s the kind of place you book for an anniversary or a nice night out and know everyone from the steak-and-a-martini crowd to the something-lighter table will leave happy. Reservations are the move for the dining room (they run on Tock, up to 30 days out), while the bar and patio stay open for walk-ins — handy when a downtown stroll turns into dinner. It’s a small room by design, so it fills up, and they’ll gently cap your table at two hours on a busy night.
