Erebus Haunted Attraction

If you take your Halloween seriously, Erebus is a pilgrimage. This four-story downtown Pontiac haunted attraction isn’t a pop-up in a parking lot — it held the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest walk-through haunted house from 2005 to 2009, and it still delivers over a half-mile of indoor terror: Hollywood-grade effects, elaborate sets, and live actors who know exactly when you’ve let your guard down. Brothers Edward and James Terebus have spent decades perfecting the art of the scare (they’re the same minds behind the year-round Erebus Escape rooms a few blocks over), and it shows in how relentlessly the thing is staged. It’s a genuine autumn tradition for a lot of Michiganders — the kind of thing you do with a screaming group of friends, a brave date, or anyone who insists they don’t get scared (they will). On our list as one of the region’s marquee haunts, and a big reason Pontiac owns October — just remember it’s seasonal, and Pontiac‘s scariest address only opens its doors in the fall.
