The Ringwald

The Ringwald has been a mainstay of Detroit’s theatre scene since opening in May 2007 with a production titled Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy — a fitting introduction to a company known for irreverent, genre-blurring work. After 14 years on Woodward and 9 Mile, the pandemic forced a temporary closure, and in fall 2021 The Ringwald relaunched in a new partnership space inside Affirmations, Ferndale’s LGBTQ+ community center, where it operates today.

The programming leans camp, comedy, and unapologetically queer storytelling — past seasons have included Evil Dead: The Musical, The Golden Girls Musical, and Southern Baptist Sissies — alongside more serious dramatic work. Monday night shows are a flat $10, and students get $5 off any other night, which keeps ticket prices genuinely accessible for a company that’s explicitly committed to centering BIPOC and LGBTQ+ storytelling.
