We went in expecting the quiet coffee-by-day, easy-brewery-by-night reputation Ferndale Project has built — and that’s exactly what we got. This is counter-service through and through: order up front, wait for your buzzer, carry your own food back from the kitchen. No one’s checking in on your table, because there isn’t one being held for you — and once you spot the brewing equipment tucked in back, it’s clear this isn’t just a taproom pouring other people’s beer.

The patio sits right out front on Livernois — you actually walk through it to reach the front door, fire rings going once the sun’s down, which sets the tone before you’ve even ordered. Come thirsty for beer specifically, though: there’s no wine or cocktail list here. The room gets genuinely lively once it fills in — a good kind of boomy, conversations layering over each other — and the music holds its own even then. We’re already planning our next visit.
