Great Lakes Crossing Outlets

Our Take

Great Lakes Crossing is the kind of place you can lose an entire rainy Saturday to and not notice the hours passing. It’s the largest indoor outlet mall in Michigan — 1.3 million square feet, 185-plus stores — laid out in one enormous loop, with the outlet-price versions of names you actually want plus a run of things you can’t do anywhere else nearby: SEA LIFE, the state’s biggest aquarium; a LEGOLAND Discovery Center; an arcade-and-bowling behemoth in Round1; and the animatronic-thunderstorm spectacle of the Rainforest Cafe. It is not a quaint boutique stroll, and it doesn’t pretend to be — it’s a full-day, something-for-everyone machine.

That makes it genuinely useful in a way we respect: it’s the answer for out-of-town guests, antsy kids, a brutal-weather day, or a big group that can never agree on a plan. Come with a strategy and comfortable shoes. It’s one of Auburn Hills‘s defining destinations — the town also gave us the Palace, so it knows a thing or two about big rooms — and it’s on our list as the region’s default rainy-day fallback.
