Zana

Our Take

Zana is the Tallulah Group’s most ambitious swing — a 10,000-square-foot stunner in downtown Birmingham (the former Bird & The Bread space) from the team behind Tallulah Wine Bar and Detroit’s BESA. Named for the “fairy of the mountains” in Albanian folklore, it’s all gold-leaf bar, hand-blown glass, and an open kitchen, with a modern-American-meets-European menu and a cocktail program whose lead mixologist has won national honors. In warm months the front windows fold open into an airy, patio-like room.

It runs date-night-elegant early and tips into a livelier late-night scene on weekends. We have it on our list as one of Birmingham’s most design-forward places to drink — come for a date night and a genuinely serious cocktail, or a girls’ hang that photographs as well as it tastes. Sit at the gold bar if you can.
