Margot European Spa

Our Take

Margot European Spa has been Margot’s life’s work since 1980, when she started with a two-room facility and rented rooms in other Birmingham-area salons before building out her own space on Townsend Street. Forty-five years later, it’s a 17-treatment-room operation across from the Townsend Hotel, and Margot — trained as an esthetician in her native Germany — still shapes the spa’s identity around European technique and results over spectacle. She was the one who introduced PHYTOMER, a French marine-based skincare line, to Michigan more than three decades ago, and she still travels to the PHYTOMER labs on the Brittany coast to stay current.

The spa also runs medical aesthetic services under the direction of Dr. Wendy McFalda, D.O., so it covers both the relaxation side and more clinical treatments under one roof. Reviewers consistently mention being offered champagne, coffee, and water while waiting, and the spa regularly hosts private groups and bridal parties in a dedicated room. For a business spanning three generations of clientele, the through-line seems to be Margot herself — staff and longtime clients alike credit her personally with the spa’s reputation.

On our radar for a proper, old-school-luxury spa day, or for anyone whose skin needs the kind of attention that only comes from someone who’s been doing this since 1980.
