Rochester Mills Beer Co.

Some breweries chase trends; Rochester Mills just quietly became an institution. Since 1998 it’s occupied the old Western Knitting Mill — a hulking 1890s brick building two blocks off Main — and leaned all the way in: original hardwood, exposed brick, columns and beams left exactly where the mill hands would remember them. The ales and lagers are brewed on site, the menu runs the full brewpub range (pizzas, sandwiches, salads, something for the kid you dragged along), and there’s a patio, pool tables, and live music toward the weekend. It bills itself as the largest brewpub in Michigan, which reads like bluster until you’re standing in the room. This is the place that hosts the baby shower, the rehearsal dinner, and the after-party — a downtown Rochester fixture that’s been at it long enough to be genuinely good at it.
