Kuhnhenn Brewing Co.

Our Take

Here’s a genuine only-in-Warren story: Kuhnhenn Brewing started life as the family hardware store, and when the brothers’ homebrewing hobby began outselling the hammers, the beer took over. The result is one of Michigan’s most decorated small breweries — several beers ranked among the best in the world on the beer-rating sites, plus a World Beer Cup gold for their DRIPA (Double Rice IPA). The original Warren taproom, on the corner of Mound and Chicago, keeps things rustic and unfussy: it’s a microbrewery, winery, and meadery all at once, so the person in your group who “doesn’t like beer” has mead, wine, and house-made root beer to fall back on. Snacks are simple — pretzels, pizza, popcorn — because the point is the liquid. It’s low-key, a little hidden, and beloved by the sort of people who plan road trips around good beer. On our list as a world-class brewery you’d never guess from the parking lot.
