Heritage Park

Heritage Park is 211 acres of genuinely well-used green space in Farmington Hills, drawing an estimated 750,000 visitors a year for 4.5 miles of hiking trails, a free splash pad, a sled hill in winter, sand volleyball, and an archery range — all of it free to enter. The Farmington Hills Nature Center anchors the park with a bird-viewing area, native fish aquariums, and hands-on exhibits, and the grounds also hold a cluster of historic buildings, including the Spicer House and Longacre House, plus a summer concert series at the amphitheater on Thursday evenings.

It’s the kind of park that rewards repeat visits rather than a single trip — a Rouge River overlook and bridge, a sensory-focused Discovery Trail, and enough acreage that you’re unlikely to see the same corner twice in a season. Oakland County Parks recently entered a partnership with the city to help operate and invest in the park going forward, which should mean continued upkeep for a space that’s clearly already well-loved.
