Bagger Dave’s Burger Tavern

Bagger Dave’s is the burger tavern that’s been holding down its corner of Coolidge while a lot of its siblings elsewhere quietly disappeared. The formula is build-your-own: pick your patty — beef, turkey, black bean — then pile on whatever you’re in the mood for, and pair it with a Michigan beer, which the taps have long been serious about. Hand-cut fries, a short menu done properly, no reinvention required.

We only saw it from the outside on this trip, and it looked exactly like what it is: an unfussy, low-key room that people go back to. Worth knowing before you go — there’s no patio, but there is an all-seasons room with a wall of windows that opens up when the weather cooperates, which is arguably the better deal in a Michigan spring.

It’s on our list as the neighborhood burger option in Berkley — the one that isn’t trying to be an event, which is sometimes the entire point. Pair it with a wander down Coolidge and you’ve got a night.
