Spa in the Woods opened in 2014 from longtime Grosse Pointe residents Rob and Michelle Koueiter — Rob’s been running Koueiter Jewelers a few doors down on Mack Avenue for three decades, so this is very much a known-quantity, neighborhood-institution kind of business rather than an outside chain moving in. The woodsy interior leans into candles and quiet music, and the amenity that actually sets it apart is the steam shower and infrared sauna paired with most services, plus a glass of champagne if the mood (and the visit) calls for it.
Product-wise it’s stocked with Farmhouse Fresh and Image skincare lines, and the massage menu runs from Swedish and hot stone to prenatal and sports work, so it covers a fairly full range without feeling like a factory. Reviewers consistently single out the owners themselves as present and hands-on, which tracks with a spa that’s been run by the same couple since it opened rather than passed through a series of managers.
On our radar for a genuine treat-yourself afternoon, or a couples massage that ends in champagne rather than a rushed exit to the parking lot.
