The Milford Trail

Our Take

For the active half of a Milford visit, point yourself at the Milford Trail. The trailhead off Peters Road is the jumping-on point for a network of paths that thread out from the village into miles of scenic open space, with panoramic looks at the Huron River valley along the way. It’s built for a couple of different moods: an easy family walk or roll, a proper hike, or — for the mountain-bike crowd — some genuine singletrack to work for. The real Milford move is to pair it with the river: paddle the Huron in the morning, then pedal or stroll the trail in the afternoon, a ‘paddle and pedal’ combo the town is practically designed for. It’s free, it’s uncrowded compared to the big metroparks, and it’s the kind of quietly beautiful local trail that photographs far better than you’d expect. Bring good shoes or your bike, bring water, and bring a camera. On our list as the trail-and-woods counterpoint to Milford‘s downtown — nature, minutes from Main Street.
