Make Good Choices

Our Take

Every reviving downtown needs a good independent coffee shop — the small, warm, watch-your-drink-get-made kind — and Make Good Choices has quietly become that anchor on Perry Street. It’s a genuinely cozy room, the sort of place that’s equally right for an hour of laptop work, a quiet catch-up with a friend, or just a break from everything with a very good latte in hand. The specialty drinks are the draw: made to order, generous with the fun flavors (a hot s’mores number with almond milk gets name-checked more than once), and poured by baristas who actually want to help you land on the right one. There are treats to go with, occasional music nights that turn the space into a little scene, and the kind of welcoming, community-first energy that a downtown on the rebound runs on. It’s not a sprawling café empire — it’s small, and the hours run short — but that’s part of the charm. On our list as one of the friendliest places to post up in downtown Pontiac.
