Ukrainian Cultural Center

Our Take

This one comes with an asterisk, and that’s exactly why we like it. The Ukrainian Cultural Center isn’t a restaurant — it’s a community hall and event space on Ryan Road that anchors Warren‘s sizable Ukrainian community and hosts weddings and gatherings in its ballroom. But here’s the insider part: its kitchen opens to the public. Every Friday there’s a lunch buffet (roughly 11 to 2, open to anyone) put out by the center’s own cooks, plus a “Center Bar” — a locals’ bar and grill — where you can drop in for a drink and a bite. It’s a genuinely lovely, under-the-radar way to eat authentic Ukrainian and Eastern European food in a metro that usually points you toward Hamtramck for it. Go for the Friday buffet, treat the ballroom setting as part of the charm, and know you’re somewhere most locals have driven past a hundred times without realizing they could stop in. On our list as Warren’s quiet Eastern European table.
