Mongers’ Provisions

Mongers’ Provisions is the specialty food shop that makes Berkley feel a little more world-class — a bright, well-stocked “culinary outfitters” for fine cheese, chocolate, and charcuterie, with a genuinely good wine and beer selection (including plenty of Michigan bottles) and a literal wall of chocolate. Founded by a Zingerman’s alum, it’s staffed by actual cheesemongers who love steering you toward something you’ve never tried, and it slings excellent grilled cheese six days a week.

It’s browse-y, sample-y, and dangerously easy to over-shop. We have it on our list as Berkley’s go-to for building a group cheese board or grabbing a thoughtful edible gift — and it happens to run The Rind wine bar right next door. Ask a monger what’s good right now; that’s the whole point.
