Rusted Crow Spirits

Our Take

Rusted Crow is the most art-directed distillery in the metro, and that’s not an accident — owner Joe Schebel is a College for Creative Studies grad who designed the label art himself, and it shows the moment you walk into the Dearborn Heights tasting room. The vibe is rustic-vintage, somewhere between a 1950s pin-up parlor and an old apothecary, with a small seasonal menu of craft cocktails built on spirits made right there: Detroit Steam Vodka, Ginstache Gin, Davy Jones Rum, and the cheekily named Murder Mitten Moonshine.

It became an unlikely nightlife spot in a stretch of town nobody expected one, drawing people in with live music, friendly bartenders, and drinks that punch above the zip code. Days are limited and the room is small, so it rewards a little intention rather than a random drop-in. We have it on our list as proof that a great little distillery can turn up anywhere — and that the ones run by people with a genuine point of view tend to be the most fun.
