Detroit Public Theatre

Detroit Public Theatre has grown from a 2015 startup staging its inaugural production inside the Max M. Fisher Music Center into an 11-season company with its own permanent home on Third Avenue in the North Cass corridor. The programming leans toward bold, contemporary work — recent seasons have included Here There Are Blueberries (a Holocaust-era photography mystery), King James (friendship through the lens of LeBron James and Cleveland sports culture), and an annual Holiday Cabaret that’s become its own local tradition.

The venue itself is built for a full night out rather than just a show: the lobby bar opens an hour before curtain with signature cocktails, wine, beer, and alcohol-free options, and there’s a dedicated (paved) parking lot just a block north. It’s also genuinely accessible-minded, with fee-free ticket exchanges for subscribers and assistive listening technology available on request.
