Kay Willingham grew up loving this stretch of Livernois, and now she runs one of its most hands-on gems: Art in Motion, a ceramics studio and gallery where you can shop handmade pottery or get your own hands dirty. The space offers wheel-throwing, hand-building, sculpting, slip casting, and paint-your-own-pottery for every experience level, plus parties and a little playroom for kids.
Willingham outgrew her first location on the Ave and expanded right on the same street — proof of how much the neighborhood craves making things together. It’s a Black woman-owned creative studio that doubles as a community living room, the kind of place that turns a shopping trip into a memory you made yourself.
